Charleston, South Carolina
May 17 - 22, 2019
The Charleston area is a world renowned tourist destination that is both steeped in history and oozing with natural beauty; this tour will show you the variety of things the area has to offer.   We'll visit the Nathaniel Russell House with its glorious flying staircase and the Edmonston-Alston House, tour the spectacular ironwork gates of Philip Simmons, visit several historic churches, Mepkin Abbey, including  its Abbey Church, Retreat Center and Library and the National Trust's Drayton Hall is a must see!   Charleston is the home of The New American College of the Building Arts  - our tour here should be quite interesting!  We'll span centuries of architecture as we'll see historic plantations and a few contemporary homes on the barrier islands  - including the beautiful home on Kiawah Island pictured above.  In addition, one of our visits will be to an uninhabited barrier island with a boneyard beach to see what the area looked like before colonization and development!

Iceland
July 3 - 13, 2019
For those of you who missed our incredible trip to Iceland last year, you’ve got another chance!  This tour will include some of the same locations previously visited but we’ll we adding several new sites.
Iceland is truly an outstanding experience!  About the size of Kentucky, Iceland has some rather interesting contemporary architecture and amazing natural wonders and our tour will incorporate both aspects of this island country.  We’ll spend time in Reykjavik where we’ll visit the most exciting architectural buildings in the city, such as Harpa – Icelandic Concert and Conference Centre by Henning Larsen Architects and Olafur Eliasson, Hallgrimskirkja (Hallgrimschurch), Perlan (“The Pearl”) andAusturvollur Square, to name a few.  Plans are in the works for us to meet with architects Steve Christer and Margrét Harðardóttur who designed Reykjavik City Hall and the Supreme Court Building while touring these buildings.  We will also visit Nordic House, a cultural institution opened in 1968 and operated by the Nordic Council of Ministers with a library designed by Alvar Aalto.  Its goal is to foster and support cultural connections between Iceland and the other Nordic countries.  We'll spend two nights at the ION Adventure Hotel near Gullfoss, which will provide us with both architecture and adventure.  Some of the iconic Icelandic venues we’ll see include:

●          The Blue Lagoon
●          South Shore waterfalls
●          Skógar Museum
●          Vik and the black sand beach
●          Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon
●          Turf church at Hof
●          Several private residences including the home of a renowned art collector
●          Ferry to Westman Islands to visit the volcano museum and see puffins
●          The Golden Circle
●          Húsafell and the Magnificent West
●          Ferry to Flatey Island

October 24 – November 2, 2019
The Bauhaus – the most fabled design school of the modern era with its innovative curriculum was founded in Weimar, Germany by Walter Gropius in 1919.  Relocated to Dessau in 1925 and later moved to Berlin, the Bauhaus school revolutionized 20th century design, art, and architecture the world over and continues to influence architectural education today.  We will trace the institution’s brief but dramatic history while learning about the legacy and impact of this innovative movement by viewing the original Bauhaus buildings, museums and exhibitions during this special centenary celebration.
