Architecture Tour - Kansas City - April 21 - 25, 2016

This tour is packed with architectural wonders!  We’ll visit several churches – the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Community Christian Church, the Barry Byrne designed St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Gyo Obata (HOK) designed Community of Christ Temple – and several private homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and Bruce Goff.  In addition, tours and visits are planned to several of the area’s museums and cultural centers that are of architectural note – the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts by Moshie Safdie, the Nelson-Atkins Museum by Steven Holl and the Kemper Museum by Gunnar Birkerts.  No architecture tour to this area is complete without spending time at Powell Gardens, home of the Fay Jones+Maurice Jennings designed Marjorie Powell Allen Chapel.  Powell Gardens contains the largest public collection of Jones+Jennings structures including the chapel, visitor center, pavilion gatehouse and garden barn.  Our tour ends with a tour of St. Benedict’s Abbey and church designed by Barry Byrne in  Atchison, Kansas.  Join us for spring in Kansas City!
